Shawn M. Weigel, D.O., F.A.O.C.O.O.
Dr. Weigel earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996. He completed his internship and ophthalmology residency at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was named Chief Resident in 1999. In 2000 he received the Senior Ophthalmic Resident Paper Award by the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology.
Dr. Weigel began providing eye care in 2000 and later joined Ludwick Eye Center in 2012. He specializes in cataract surgery and throughout his career has performed thousands of surgeries. He has conducted numerous patient education seminars on various diseases affecting the eye. He enjoys teaching others about vision and ways to prevent vision loss.
Dr. Weigel was first introduced to eye care at a young age. A friend of the family was an eye surgeon and often rushed off to help others during emergency situations. In observing this, he became passionate about wanting to help others.
“There are so many rewarding moments in a day with what we do. In working with LASIK patients, I can help a person who can’t see the world without their glasses and make them glasses free so they can see the world like they’ve never seen it before. In working with cataract surgery, I see people who couldn’t even count their fingers can now read the 20/20 line. What more could I want than being able to wake up, go to work, and help change a person’s life?”
Dr. Weigel is married to his high school sweetheart and together they have three daughters. In his free time he enjoys spending time with family and coaching for his daughters’ soccer teams.
