Burning, itching, or watery eyes? How can we help…
Dry Eye Disease is a disease that affects millions of people, and you may be one of them.
Just a few of the symptoms that people with Dry Eye Disease may experience are burning, itching, and/or excessive tearing in one or both of their eyes. The truth is that Dry Eye Disease can be down-right miserable. It can decrease your vision and cause damage to the surface of your eyes. Anyone who has lived with this condition for any length of time will tell you that it’s frustrating, time consuming, and expensive. Until recently, most treatment options for Dry Eye Disease only provided temporary relief through continued use of lubricating and/or prescription eye drops. But now, I am excited to be able to offer my patients at Ludwick Dry Eye Treatment Center a way to treat the cause of their dry eyes and not just the symptoms. This treatment is called LipiFlow.
To understand how LipiFlow works, you have to understand the causes of Dry Eye Disease. In simplest terms, if you suffer from dry eyes, it’s because your eyes aren’t producing enough fluids or, more commonly, is caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). MGD is where your meibomian glands (located in your eyelids) are not producing the necessary oils for your tears. Approximately 80% of Dry Eye Disease is caused by MGD. Healthy meibomian glands secrete oil onto the surface of the eye to help form normal tears. Sometimes these glands become blocked, stopping healthy tear production, and resulting in Dry Eye Disease.
LipiFlow is an FDA-approved treatment of Dry Eye Disease caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction. LipiFlow is a painless, extremely safe, 12-minute procedure that applies gentle pressure and soothing heat to your eyelids as it massages the glands and relieves the blockages to restore normal tear function. Many patients even refer to LipiFlow as a spa treatment for their eyes!
I recently traveled to Duke University to visit their world-renowned Dry Eye Treatment Center, where they are currently treating patients with LipiFlow. I met with the medical director and toured their facility to learn about new ways to ensure that Ludwick Dry Eye Treatment Center was providing the most comprehensive treatment available to people suffering from Dry Eye Disease in the tri-state area. While visiting I learned that LipiFlow is improving the quality of people’s lives who suffer from Dry Eye Disease. Patients treated with LipiFlow are finally able to experience real relief and no longer suffer from the irritating symptoms associated with dry eyes.
I am proud to now be able to offer my patients the same relief at Ludwick Dry Eye Treatment Center. I truly feel that LipiFlow is the best treatment available for my patients with Dry Eye Disease. If your eyes are feeling any discomfort or you have been told that you have dry eye, but have not yet found relief with current treatments or medications, please make an appointment to come and see me for a Dry Eye Evaluation. I will diagnose the cause of your Dry Eye Disease, develop a customized treatment plan specific to your needs, and determine if LipiFlow can help you.
As I tell my dry eye patients, “You should not feel your eyes as you live your life!”
