Ludwick Eye Center is Collection Hub for Eyeglass Donation Programs
Ludwick Eye Center is collecting gently used eyeglasses for Lions Clubs International and Respectacle, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization.
Worldwide, according to the World Health Organization, more than 127 million people are estimated to be in need of glasses, including many Americans.
Whether due to lack of access or inability to pay for costs, too often those with severe vision problems that can be easily corrected with the proper prescription lenses are not getting the eyeglasses they so desperately need.
Through the Lions Recycle for Sight Program, donated glasses are collected by local Lions clubs and delivered to a regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center. There, Lion volunteers clean and sort the eyeglasses by prescription size then package and ship to humanitarian distribution teams. Most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.
Respectacle uses the power of the Internet to facilitate redistribution of quality, used eyeglasses donated by members of the community. They are cleaned, categorized, and loaded into Respectacle’s online database. Individuals without the financial resources to pay for their eyeglasses can make a request through Respectacle’s web site; all that is needed is an eye doctor’s prescription. Individuals may simply go to www.respectacle.org/search, enter prescription numbers, then browse through the selection of glasses that approximates their prescription.
If you have old eyeglasses that you are no longer wearing, bring them to any office of Ludwick Eye Center at 825 5th Avenue, Chambersburg; 1647 East Main Street, Waynesboro; and 1150 Professional Court, Suite B, Hagerstown. No appointment is needed. For more information call Ludwick Eye Center at 717-262-9700 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
