Ripe with live theatre, music, and other performances, our area is home to The Maryland Theatre and Maryland Symphony Orchestra in Hagerstown, the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center in Shippensburg, and The Capitol Theatre Center in Chambersburg. Other cultural activities include community theatre, art galleries, museums, winery and vineyard tours, and live music in area parks. Younger minds will delight in the many child-centered venues and activities.

With a rich history, mostly surrounding the Civil War, you can travel through time in our region and beyond. History buffs or those interested in learning more can experience dozens of historic sites and museums, from the Chambersburg Heritage Center to Antietam National Battlefield (where the bloodiest battle in American history took place on September 17, 1862). We are just a short drive to other Civil War towns, including Shepherdstown and Harpers Ferry, WV and Gettysburg, PA.

Though rapidly growing, our area offers a safe, secure environment and a low cost of living with a mixture of historic properties and new developments. In addition to affordable housing, the area offers excellent private/prep schools like Saint James School and Mercersburg Academy, award-winning public schools – including one of the only arts high schools in Maryland, and two- and four-year colleges such as Shippensburg University, Wilson College, and Penn State Mont Alto.
