LASIK Procedure and FAQs
Does it hurt?
During LASIK your cornea will be numbed with eye drops. Most patients experience a pressure sensation for 15 to 20 seconds during the procedure, but say they have little to no discomfort both during and after LASIK.
What is recovery like?
Recovery is fast! The first couple of hours after surgery, the eye feels somewhat irritated and may experience some burning and tearing. Vision is typically blurry during this time. A 3-4 hour nap is recommended following the procedure so you can rest your eyes and aid in the healing process. After several hours the irritation goes away and vision begins to clear. The day after surgery, most irritation is completely gone and your vision is clear. Patients are usually able to return to work within 1-3 days.
Is LASIK covered by insurance?
Refractive surgery is considered an elective procedure so it is usually not covered by insurance companies although some plans may cover a portion of the screening examination. At Ludwick Eye Center, we offer flexible financing plans with approved credit through Wells Fargo or CareCredit. Many companies now offer employees the option for flex, health spending, or cafeteria plans. This allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars to use for your medical needs such as refractive surgery. Check with your employer about setting up your plan.
